Special Programs
New Arc Academy
The New Arc Academy offers two great programs for budding scientists and engineers!
At the New Arc Academy I students in grades 4 through 7 engage in the hands-on design of products, systems, and environments while they learn about technology. Academy themes revolve around robotic, physical, biological, and information systems. The New Arc Academy, hosted by OET, meets daily on the University of Delaware ’s Newark campus for two weeks during late July and early August. In 2009, the camp will focus on marine sciences and will meet weekdays from July 20-July 31.
Themes:
- The human body
- Robotic systems – build and control robots
- Marine systems – explore the undersea world of sharks
- Multimedia systems – support library research and presentations with multimedia
- SkunkWorks – structure building competitions
In the one-week New Arc Academy II, students learn basic computer programming and will learn how to assemble and program robotic devices. This year, the camp will meet from August 3-7.
Summer Institute in Educational and Assistive Technology
During the summer months, OET hosts the Summer Institute in Educational and Assistive Technology (SIEAT) which offers graduate-level credit courses to preservice and inservice teachers and other education professionals. Topics include internet literacy, assistive technology, networking, and integrating technology into the curriculum. From novice through advanced educational technology users, the SIEAT has classes to meet everyone’s interests.
